Watermelon plants require high quality fertilizers. They need nutrients like nitrogen, potassium, calcium and phosphorous. These are all essential for growing water melon plants successfully. Watermelon plants will not thrive without these nutrients.
The most common type of fertilizer used for watermelons is liquid manure or composted cow manure. Other types include peat moss, perlite, vermiculite and others. Each one has its own advantages and disadvantages.

The three primary nutrients that watermelons require are nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Actually, most plants require these three nutrients in large amounts. These nutrients help the plant to grow big and strong.
Other secondary nutrients such as sulfur, zinc and iron are also needed but only in small amounts.
It’s important to note that different types of fertilizers contain different nutrient ratios. It’s also important to note that the higher the number means the nutrient is present in larger amounts. For example, if a fertilizer contains 20% nitrogen, that means that it has more nitrogen than anything else.
A lot of watermelon fertilizers contain around 10-20% ammonium nitrate.
