What Is Asian Ginseng?

Ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) is one of the most popular medicinal plants used worldwide. It was first discovered in China over 2000 years ago. The plant contains many substances which are known to have anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, analgesic, sedative and stimulant effects. Ginseng is used for its numerous health benefits including treatment of diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, asthma and depression. It has been shown to reduce stress levels and improve mood. There are several types of ginseng which include:

Korean Panax Grapes (Panax quinquefolius L.)

Japanese Panax Grapes (Panaeolus cinerea L. var. glabra)

Chinese Panax Grapes (Panaeolus cineraria L.)

Indian Panax Grapes (Panaeolus communis L.)

African Panax Grapes (Panaeolopsis ficus-indica L. Berk.)

Mixed Panax Grapes (Panaeolus spp.)

Panax ginseng is the most popular and widely discussed type of ginseng. It is an herb that is native to northern China. The plant itself has fleshy roots which were used medicinally by the Chinese for over 5,000 years.

How To Grow Panax Grapes

There are many methods for how to plant ginseng seeds. Soak the seeds in water overnight before planting. You can plant them directly into the soil but they may take longer to grow. Otherwise you can start them in pots and then transplant them after a few months when they are large enough.

Make sure that they get lots of sun, at least 6 hours per day, and water them every other day. Fertilize them once every two weeks. You can plant them in rows or clumps, just make sure there is at least 5 feet between each one.

Clumps are ideal for gardens because they take up less space and provide more shade for the roots. If you do not have much space then this may be a good option for you. In addition, clumps also take less time to grow which means you will have ginseng roots sooner. Plant them at least 1 metre apart.

Ginseng grows in many parts of the world including Canada, South Korea, and the United States (especially Wisconsin and North-Eastern states). It likes lots of shade, nutrient rich soil and cool climates. If you live somewhere with these conditions then you are in luck! However, if you do not, then you can use artificial shade using a cloth over the plants.

Just make sure that the cloth does not touch the plants themselves. The sun will still provide some sunlight to the plants and this helps them grow.

Ginseng requires very little maintenance once it is fully grown. It also has many health benefits if consumed on a regular basis. It is no wonder why it has been used for medicinal purposes for thousands of years.
