Zucchini Leaves Turning Yellow: Reasons For Yellow Leaves On Zucchini

The reasons for the yellowish or reddish color of your zucchini leaves may vary from one variety to another. However, there are some common factors that cause the color change.

1) Too much sun exposure.

2) Lack of water.

In addition to too much sunlight, lack of water can cause the same problem as excessive heat. If your zucchini plants get too hot they will die due to dehydration.

So if you notice your zucchini plants have turned yellow, then it means that something else is going wrong with them other than just not getting enough light!

3) Excessive watering.

4) Over fertilization.

If you’ve ever seen a cucumber plant with its leaves completely black, then you know exactly what I’m talking about. Plants that are over watered or under fertilized will often develop the same symptoms as zucchini plants.

Watering too little will result in wilting and death; watering too much could lead to root rot and even kill your plant altogether!

5) Hungry zucchini plants.

If your soil is not nutrient-rich, in which case you’ll need to add some nutrients, then your zucchini plants will eventually begin to show signs of yellowing. This is one of the most common reasons for leaves and leafy greens to turn yellow.

In the case of zucchini plants, you’ll need to add more nitrogen to your soil. You can do this by adding more hay to the mix. Or if you want to use a chemical, then look for a product with a high nitrogen count, such as 20-20-20.

6) Overly mature zucchini plants

It might seem odd, but this is one of the reasons zucchini leaves turn yellow! If your zucchini plants are getting too old and their fruits are beginning to turn a yellowish shade of green, then it’s possible that the leaves will begin to lose some of their nutrients and this can cause them to change color.

7) Your growing location is too shady

If you’re growing your zucchini plants in a shady location, then the chances are they won’t get enough sunlight at all. This will lead to the leaves losing their green color as well as other problems, such as yellowing as well.

8) Attacks from pests and diseases

If you’re having problems with insects and other pests, don’t be surprised if your zucchini leaves turn yellow. Also make sure to check for signs of disease because a problem such as this can have a serious impact on the overall health of your plants.

As you can see, there are a lot of reasons why your zucchini plants might develop yellow leaves and leafy greens. Thankfully, most of the problems are easy to fix and in some cases may not even require any special treatment at all.

So make sure you water your plants on a regular basis, keep them out of the sun if they’re wilting too much, and check their roots for signs of disease!
