The houseplants are a great source of entertainment and relaxation. They provide comfort to your home and make it look beautiful. You don’t have to spend money on expensive plants, but they do require attention when necessary. If you want to grow some amazing looking plants at home then you need to take proper care of them!
Houseplants are very useful in making a room look more inviting and relaxing. They also help keep the air fresh in your home. When you have a big family or if you live alone, then you may not have much space to work with, so it’s always good to invest in some nice plants that will give your home a certain charm. A large collection of houseplants would definitely add to any living area and make it look really neat!
A lot of people like to decorate their homes with different types of plants. Some people prefer tropical ones while others love the calming effect that trees can bring to a room. There are many kinds of houseplants, each one having its own specialities and benefits. One of the most common houseplants is the schefflera, also known as the umbrella plant.
Schefflera Arbicola Care
The schefflera is also known as the octopus tree or the diamond cane. It is a plant native to Australia and South East Asia that can grow up to twenty feet in height! It has been introduced in many other parts of the world and can now be found grown on a commercial scale in Hawaii and Florida. There are several reasons why this plant is such a favorite among gardeners. One of its most striking features is the fact that it has thick, bold leaves that can grow up to twelve inches in diameter!
It is also fairly resistant to different types of pests and diseases, making it a very reliable plant to have at home.
Of course, as with any plant, the schefflera does need a bit of maintenance. It prefers to be grown in soil that is rich in organic matter and requires watering only once every week. You can place it by a window for it to receive adequate sunlight or you can also grow it under fluorescent lights.
This plant does have certain requirements for it to grow well. One important thing that it requires is a great deal of attention and love! The schefflera can actually die if it is not given enough love and care from its owner. This is one of the drawbacks of owning a schefflera plant: you either have to be very committed to taking care of it or you need to buy one that is already grown, because the schefflera plant cannot withstand too much neglect without suffering irreparable harm.
If you are interested in growing a schefflera plant in your home then make sure to follow these steps:
Choose a good pot. The schefflera grows really big and is known to put down roots along its stem. Because of this, it’s best to select a relatively large container to grow it in. Be careful when moving the schefflera from one pot to another because its root system can actually tear apart easily. Prepare the soil.
The schefflera can survive in a variety of soils, but it really thrives when it is planted in an organic based one. The more fertilizers and nutrients you add into the soil, the quicker your schefflera is going to grow. Keep this in mind when choosing where to plant your schefflera as well. Watering it properly. This is probably the most important thing when it comes to taking care of your schefflera. It should be watered in such a way that the water is able to seep through the roots of the plant. You don’t want to drown the plant, but you also don’t want it to be in a drought-like state either. Too much water can also be a bad thing, causing the schefflera’s roots to rot and its drain on nutrients to increase exponentially. Location, Location, Location! One of the most important things about any plant is its location, and this is especially true with the schefflera. It can actually get chills fairly easily, so make sure to place it somewhere warm. It should also be in an area that is fairly well lit, but not directly in a location that gets a lot of sun. Sunlight can actually burn the leaves of your schefflera, causing them to turn brown and die. Fertilize. It is a good idea to give the schefflera plant fertilizer. You can buy these at your local home improvement store. Follow the directions on the package in order to get the best results.
As long as you follow these steps, you should have good luck with growing your own schefflera plant! They make a wonderful addition to any home and can even act as a conversation starter with guests!
