What Are The Different Types Of Legumes?

There are different types of legumes. There are several kinds of beans, peas, lentils, peanuts and other legumes. Some varieties of these legumes have been cultivated for centuries and they still retain their original flavor even after many years. Other varieties were developed only recently but they taste very similar to the ones grown thousands or hundreds of years ago. They are called genetically modified (GM) variety. Most of them are not suitable for human consumption. So, it is better to avoid such legumes altogether. However, there are some varieties which can be used in various ways like in soups, stews and sauces. These types of legumes include chickpeas, fava beans, lima beans and navy beans.
