Growing Southernwood: Care And Uses For Southernwood Herb Plant
Southernwood herb plant is one of the most popular herbs used in herbal medicine. It has been used for centuries to treat many ailments including cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, arthritis and other chronic conditions. Its use in traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) was first described by Li Shizhen in 1884.
The herb’s main active ingredient is called Artemisia absinthium, which contains several compounds such as quercetin, kaempferol and myricetin. These chemicals have been shown to reduce inflammation and improve circulation in the body. They are also thought to prevent or slow down the aging process. Other studies show that it may even protect against certain types of cancers like colon cancer and prostate cancer.
In traditional TCM, southernwood is often combined with other herbs such as yarrow, nettle and milk thistle. However, there are no clinical trials testing its efficacy in treating specific diseases. There are some anecdotal reports from patients who claim that using southernwood helps them live longer and healthier lives.
There are two main ways to grow southernwood herb plant: indoor or outdoor. Growing southernwood indoors is a bit complicated and requires a lot of attention to details. Unless you have experience in growing herbs, it’s best to grow it outside.

Growing southernwood outdoors is fairly easy, although it prefers hot and dry weather conditions. You can either plant the seeds or buy herb plants from your local nursery. You will need fertile soil that has been well-drained and has a pH between 6.5 to 7.
