Oregano: A Good Alternative For Your Cooking Needs?

The popularity of dried herbs continues to grow and there are many reasons behind this growth. One of these reasons is the fact that dried herbs have become very affordable compared with fresh herbs. There are several benefits associated with using dried herb over fresh herbs such as cost effectiveness, convenience, ease of storage, and taste.

Cost Effectiveness

Dried herbs are cheaper than fresh herbs because they do not require refrigeration or processing. They are also less expensive than dried fruits and vegetables which often contain added preservatives. Dried herbs can even be cheaper than fresh fish! However, if you want to save money, then buying whole herbs is probably the way to go since they usually come in smaller quantities. You will need fewer bags of dried herb when making your own pesto or marinades.

Convenience

Another reason why dried herbs are becoming popular is their convenience. Fresh herbs may take time to prepare, but dried herbs can be prepared in just a few minutes. Some people prefer the convenience of having fresh herbs at hand while others like the idea of being able to store them away until needed.

Ease of Storage

Some herbs, such as rosemary and thyme, can be kept for years when successfully dried. This makes dried herbs very convenient since you can store them away until needed. Unlike fresh herbs, you do not need to waste time finding and preparing them. You can also keep the herbs you don’t use regularly in an air-tight container for future use.
